9 Iconic Bollywood comedy scenes to brighten your mood| #SpeakEasyWithRuchiNDips

RBC – Religion – Bollywood – Cricket. Put any Indian on a staple diet of all or any of these and they will remain happy forever.  Think about it, Religion offers hope, Bollywood provides Entertainment, and Cricket teaches you about the indomitable sportsman spirit. When the dynamic duo, Ruchi (Wiggling Pen) & Dipika (Gleeful Blogger) approached me to write about Happiness, it delighted me.  It was a golden opportunity to spread smiles during these crazy times of COVID pandemic and lockdown.

Here are 9 iconic Bollywood Comedy Scenes that have always made me laugh. These are scenes that stay with you long after the movie is over and when you are sitting quietly, they come back to you and leave you in splits.

My secrets to weight loss and health transformation

Mehmood & Om Prakash: Classic Comedy Scene from Pyar Kiye Jaa (1966)

Whoever thought watching someone narrate a horror film scene could leave you in splits! In this brilliantly conceptualised and executed scene, the son, Mehmood, is narrating a horror scene to his father, Om Prakash. While Mehmood’s narration is spot on, the silent reactions from Om Prakash will leave you in splits. The end always leaves me laughing for a long time. Here’s the scene:

Johnny Lever, Dinesh Hingoo & Kajol: Super hit comedy scene from Baazigar (1993)

How can a house help inject comedy into a simple boy-meets-girl-for-marriage scene? Johnny Lever is at his comic best while he serves what he believes is the best tea in the world. The reactions by Dinesh Hingoo complete the scene and add to the mirth. Watch and enjoy!

Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi: Apun Ko Body Chahiye from Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003)

To what extent will you go to make your boss/best friend happy? Here’s a live example! Circuit arranges for a ‘body for dissection’ within 10 minutes of Bhai’s request. Even with the presence of a legend like Sanjay Dutt and a famous Marathi actress like Priya Bapat, this scene belongs to Arshad Warsi. Don’t miss the satire on foreigners who love portraying India as a poor and hungry nation. Watch this and keep smiling!

Kishore Kumar, Pran, Madhubala:  Munna’s introduction from Half Ticket (1962)

My late Mamaji was a fan of Kishore Kumar’s movies. He once narrated how he left the movie hall during Half Ticket only because he was laughing uncontrollably. Kishore Kumar’s magic, Pran’s sophisticated demeanor and Madhubala’s pretty face add to the entertainment quotient of this iconic film. Those were days when the villain was a handsome, sophisticated gentleman and the hero was the ordinary-looking loser from next door.  Modern crowd may find the comedy archaic and unfunny, that’s because many films have recreated these scenes later on. I always laugh when I see Kishore Kumar transform into 11-year-old Munna. His antics are super cute and borderline annoying, but totally entertaining. Watch and enjoy!

Khader Pakoda, Jr. Mehmood, Mukri: Amma Pakoda from Bombay To Goa (1972)

A bus full of passengers, each one with a story – all this while a parallel love story runs through the film. We may remember Bombay To Goa for the iconic performances of Mehmood, Amitabh, Shatrughan Sinha, however the Pakoda boy has a special place in the heart of every fan. Fun fact: the filmmakers haven’t credited Khader Pakoda in the main film, even though his presence brings so much laughter on the screen. Watch him go berserk as they untie him at the restaurant where they serve pakodas. Mukri and Jr. Mehmood support this scene brilliantly. Watch till the end!

Jagdeep, Mehmood, Salman Khan: Wah Wah Productions from Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

Andaz Apna Apna is an all-time favourite of so many people. It’s so difficult to choose the best scene from this film. I chose this clip only because of Salman, Jagdeep and Mehmood. This clip is a classic example of circular comedy where Mehmood dupes Salman who inturn dupes his dad. Superb timing and amazing chemistry between characters makes this clip fun to watch. Take a look!

Mukesh Tiwari, Sanjay Mishra, Vrijesh Hirji & Suniel Shetty: Oye Bhen Ka Takkas Tu Mujhe Fodne Aaya from One Two Three (2008)

One Two Three is one of the best films of 2008. It’s a film about how the stories of three people with the same name merge to cause a comedy of errors. I picked this scene only because of Sanjay Mishra’s dialogue, “Papa Ka ‘S’ Hai, Jaha Marzi Lagaye!” The bizzare comedy and the amazing comic timing of Sanjay Mishra, Vrijesh Hirji and Mukesh Tiwari will steal your heart and lend a smile. Do watch till the end!

Govinda, Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik: Kha Khuja Batti Bhujha from Deewana Mastana (1997)

How can one have a list of comedy scenes without Govinda? Well, there are so many scenes where film actor Govinda has made us laugh. I chose this scene because it has legends like Anupam Kher and Satish Kaushik who ably support Govinda and take the scene to another level. Check Anupam Kher’s reactions when Govinda is delivering the iconic dialogue. Satish Kaushik’s “Sochna Padenga” after Govinda’s monologue forms part of so many of our daily conversations. Watch, enjoy, and mimic!

Ayushmann Khurrana, Javed Jaffrey : Jhaat ke Baal from Bala (2019)

Films with Ayushmann Khurrana usually center on situational comedy. The characters and situations makes them exceptionally interesting. Take the 2019 movie, Bala for example, the entire film is a laughter riot with making it a fun watch with the entire family. I chose this scene because it made me laugh out loud just short of rolling on the floor. Watch and enjoy!

There are so many scenes I have left out from this list for e.g. Soorma Bhopali in Sholay, Aamir Khan in Rangeela where he dresses in a yellow pant and shirt & takes Urmila to a five star. At the five star he asks the waiter to ‘turn the AC towards him’. Still others from Golmaal, Angoor, Padosan, the list is endless.

Let me know your favourite comedy scene in the comment section. Let’s spread smiles. 🙂

  1. Recently watched Aankh Micholi, and it’s a commendable comedy. The performances from the entire cast, including Sharman Joshi, were noteworthy. The film met the expectations set by its trailer, excelling in story, screenplay, and dialogue delivery. The background music was a nice touch, and the overall music composition was fitting. A wholesome family entertainer, and after a considerable time, I’m genuinely enthused about a film.
Director Umesh Shukla deserves credit for successfully executing a comedy that resonates well. Paresh Rawal, leading the ensemble, delivered an outstanding performance, and the entire cast exhibited brilliance. It’s refreshing to encounter a comedy that maintains its humor without resorting to explicit content. Applauding the team for a well-executed project. Highly recommended for an enjoyable cinematic experience – this one stands out!
