How I saved 3 hours a day | Simple tip to manage time better

A busy mother of two boisterous kids, eldest daughter-in-law in a North Indian family, owner of a full-fledged digital agency & managing editor of a blogzine, sportsperson & fitness freak – pretty much summarises my life.  I don’t have a cook or kitchen help & lovingly cook all 4 meals for my family.

Multi tasking woman
Are you like this? So much to do, so little time

Those who know me will find me at all the important junctures in their life, whenever and wherever they need me. Despite leading an active life, I always seem to have time for what is important.

 People around me constantly ask:

How do you find the time?

Well, I could go into a lengthy explanation about managing time better & give out tips and tricks. But, it would be of no use. This blog is not about gyaan. It’s about a simple tip that will help you save 3 hours a day minimum.
I am a firm believer in recognizing what is in my control & what isn’t. Therefore, naturally, this blog post is about a factor is completely in my control.

So here it is the number one tip to save 3 hours and manage time better:

I exited WhatsApp Groups & changed settings to ensure that I don’t get added to a group without permission.

WhatsApp Groups can be awfully annoying, especially when you are dragged into them without your consent. Inspect the groups you are part of. How many are useful? How many are just forums for sharing jokes? How many incite negativity within your heart? More importantly, do you check the groups even though you hate them?

Here is a WhatsApp setting that lets you choose who can add you to group chats and guess what? There is a feature that allows you to stop them completely.

Here’s how you can enable it:

  • Open WhatsApp on your phone, and go to Settings > Accounts > Privacy.
  • Tap on Groups, and select the option that suits you best. The first one will prompt the user adding you to first send an invitation that you can approve:
    – Nobody (this prevents anyone from adding you to a group without an invitation)
    – My contacts (only your contacts can add you to a group without an invitation)
    – Anyone (Anyone can add you to a group without an invitation)If you value your privacy, you’ll want to select either of the first two options.
Dont add me to the group
WhatsApp’s new privacy feature to prevent anyone from adding you to a group without permission

The truth is, most people find WhatsApp groups annoying but many suffer from FOMO – the Fear Of Missing Out. And it is this fear that drives them to remain part of WhatsApp groups and remain addicted. However, the good news is that your true friends don’t need a WhatsApp group to be in touch with you. They will find a way to reach out to you and ensure that you remain updated with what’s relevant for you.

Exiting WhatsApp groups and preventing people from adding me in groups without my permission has given me an additional 3 hours of me-time in a day and also weeded out the irritants from my life.

Try it and let me know!

  1. Wow, how much do you manage?! And exiting what’s app groups helped you save 3 hours?! I didn’t know the app could consume that much of our time! I’m not super active on what’s app groups; I think more of my time saving will come from limiting Twitter use. Must closely examine my screen time and see what else is eating up my hours!

  2. I agree we spent an awful amount of time doing absolutely nothing on WhatsApp or scrolling through social media. Control over this would definitely help in better time management.

  3. Nice post – short and crisp. I liked the way you dealt with the topic in your post – there was definitely no gyaan and only practical tips. We live in times, where we can’t do away with using technology, so the best strategy always is to work out a middle path. Thanks for the detailed instructions in your post 🙂

  4. Social media is boon but once we start using it for our entertainment. Not exactly for entertainment, we start to use it as a mandatory daily routine then the problem starts.

It wastes a lot of hours in a day only.
