Live, laugh and cry with Comedy Couple Saqib Saleem and Shweta Basu in a new-age Rom-Com | ZEE5

Those who have been following DiaryOfAnInsaneWriter, know that I am a great fan of ZEE5 and it has been a trusted companion for my family and me during the lockdown. We have been watching their shows and reviewing them for our readers.

The affordable ZEE5 Club Pack allowed my family and me to explore so many shows on this fabulous OTT platform. Right from romance movies and rom-com shows to thrillers to cross-country thriller shows, the lockdown has been a breeze thanks to ZEE5. My 15-year-old enjoys the HiPi app and loves creating content on it.

Recently, I came across the trailer of Comedy Couple starring Rangbaaz star, Saqib Saleem and Shweta Basu. The trailer opens with the power couple performing a stand-up on the stage. Both are stand-up comedians who come from unique backgrounds. Their on-stage and off-stage chemistry is amazing and both of them have an affable quality.

The boy, Deep is a fun-loving, shallow, ambitious boy from a small town. His parents are religious and rigid. As a person, Deep lies his way through his life to make situations easier for him. Zoya comes from a single home. Her mother, played by Pooja Bedi attempts to control her life. Zoya hates Deep’s habit of compulsive lying and sometimes fears that he will turn out like her estranged father.

There are several light moments in the narrative that offer space for the audience to laugh at the couple. High-strung, emotional moments grip the audience and leave them wishing that nothing goes wrong with this sweet couple. It will be interesting to watch the situations that take them away from their popular show, Comedy Couple. Will they come together again?

My take:

The trailer reminded me of the 1973 hit movie, Abhimaan starring Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan (nee Bhaduri). Subir (Amitabh), a singer, encourages his wife Uma (Jaya) to pursue a singing career. However, things take a turn when she becomes more popular than him. I found that Comedy Couple was similar because both Deep and Zoya are in the same profession and perform together. However, it’s different from Abhimaan because they become estranged because of familial pressures. They have adapted the situations to suit modern story-telling and the ensemble of characters along with a gripping narrative will make it an interesting film to watch.

I love the way Deep and Zoya share a realistic chemistry and are in a marriage of equals. Both of them represent the modern millennials of 2020 and that makes the show very relatable.

The film releases on October 21, 2020 on ZEE5 and I am looking forward to watch it with my family.

  8. Zee5 has a variety of shows as per the taste of its viewers. Is it a comeback of Pooja Bedi. Sorry but I am not much into TV shows and movies but haven’t heard or seen her name much. Storyline of this show seems interesting.
