The best thing you will read on the internet today | Mayura Amarkant’s Trapped In Heaven | #BlogChatterEbook

When one thinks of love, the first thing that comes to mind is the romantic love between two people. Think about it, there are unique kinds of love: the love between friends, love for materialistic objects, love for fantasy, love for the captor, love for the boss, love for siblings and the list goes on.

Trapped in Heaven & other stories  by Mayura Amarkant is an attempt to explore the myriad shades of love and relationships. Through this book, I wanted to narrate the stories that run through my head. Some of these stories are from real-life incidents and others are a figment of my imagination. The challenge was to tell the story in a way that the subtle social commentary is clear to the audience without being preachy.

Story: Trapped in Heaven

A housewife and a widow are living parallel lives. While the housewife loves day dreaming at the balcony, the widow loves singing songs in the garden. Their lives are similar in more ways than one. An untold story of every homemaker, Trapped in Heaven, will tell you why some of your friends behave the way they do.

Story: Sealed with a Kiss

Remember your first kiss? With whom did you experience it? Mythili was 13 and Satyendra 18 when they shared their first awkward kiss. Over a decade has gone by since the episode. She still breaks out in a cold sweat at midnight. Sealed with a Kiss will take you down the memory lane.

Story: Be Mine

The newly opened Bandra-Worli  Sea-link presented a beautiful backdrop for Mohan’s fantasies to soar. He would propose to the love of his life right at the centre of the bridge. The Mumbai traffic kept disturbing his daydreams. Among the pandemonium, he could hear her voice, smell her perfume & feel her soft touch. Will his fantasies come true? Anyone who has had an office romance will love this story.

Don’t Bother Me. I’m Living Happily Ever After.

Security guard, Ramchandra, was his family’s ATM. He lived a lonely life in Mumbai for 15 years. She entered his desolate life like a breath of fresh air. Following her orders was the purpose of his life. Her scoldings were like music to his tired ears. All he wanted is her praise and adulation. Will he get the attention he deserved? This emotionally moving story has a subtle social commentary that highlights the life of migrant workers in India.

A 15-year-old is dying because of a rare congenital disease. She wants to complete the last item in her bucket list and seeks help from her grieving mother. Will the duo be able to achieve the goal? My favourite story. Keep a box of tissues handy while reading this one.

Locked in a closet with a stranger

Fate brings them together during Mumbai’s communal riots.  They end up getting cosy. The police identify him as the rapist who caused the furore among the Hindu and Muslim communities in the city. What happens next? Don’t miss this one, it will take you to a place of no return.

The Devil’s Bride

The impotent husband or the battered wife who is the actual victim? She couldn’t live without him, even though he used to beat her and force her for unnatural sex. After he hit her, he would cry himself to sleep while hiding his head in her bosom. They were inseparable until that fateful day. Every battered wife or dissatisfied husband who seek respite from suffering must read this story.
