Book Review: Dots and Streaks by Ellora Mishra | #BlogchatterEbook

Ever thought of reading something that would take you to several places at the same time? If the answer is yes, then you must check out Ellora Mishra’s Dots and Streaks at the Blogchatter Ebook Carnival. It’s a collection of poems that are brief stories or incidents written in a poetry format.

Dots and Streaks by Ellora Mishra

BlogChatter published Ellora’s book, Dots and Streaks, as part of their Ebook Carnival in May 2020

What I loved about the book?

Without using too many words or explanations, Ellora paints scenes, settings and situations through her poems. Her words transport the reader to exactly where she wants them to be. Ellora is the puppeteer, and the reader turns into an audience that thoroughly enjoys the journey full of surprises.

The poetess has taken time to savour life’s small & big incidents through each poem. Friendship, memories, love, experience of life through the eyes of inanimate objects, she has leafed through them all.

So, while scrolling through this ebook, one is eagerly waiting to read the story/incident/experience/thought the next poem will unfold.

Parents who want their kids to increase their vocabulary or polish their creative writing skills, must make their children read this collection of poems.

My favourite poem from Ellora Mishra’s Dots & Streaks:

The Witch’s Little Iron Box – A beautiful poem about how we store memories deep within our hearts only to find that we have forgotten it long ago. This could apply to sad and happy memories.

The downside of the book

Grammar nazis may point out editing and word usage flaws in the poems. I am not a grammar nazi, so I won’t be highlighting these minor flaws, especially since they don’t disturb the overall flow of the poems.
However, I believe that the poetess could have stacked the poems according to genres or topics – that way the reader could choose which section to read first. I also feel that there are places where she has taken efforts to rhyme sentences. It’s important to note that none of these downsides takes away the overall merit of this beautiful collection of poems.

Verdict: 4.5/5

The language is lucid and the Thinkers, philosophers, readers of fantasy & fiction will love this book.
