Kasab Taj terror attack

I haven’t gone home…poem on 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks

I adjusted my luggage, inquired whether the train was mine,
A sharp pain pierced through my spine,
Blood poured on the floor; I slouched into a heap.
To take me the angels never arrived…
I haven’t gone home ever since…

CST station, 26/11 Terror Attack
Blood poured on the floor; I slouched into a heap

Crowds darting towards nowhere faces painted with horror,
Crouched behind a barricade, I instructed my lawyer,
Till date, a poignant horror punctures my normal life.
To take me the angels never arrived…
I haven’t gone home ever since…..

Taj Hotel, 26/11 Terror Attack
Crouched behind a barricade, I instructed my lawyer

When I propose, with tears, my lady love will choke.
Alas, when the ring reached her fingers, the champagne glass broke,
I helplessly collapsed on the richly carpeted floor.
To take me the angels never arrived…
I haven’t gone home ever since…..

Taj Hotel, 26/11 Terror Attack
Alas, when the ring reached her fingers, the champagne glass broke,

‘There has been gun firing at our office’ said my petrified colleague,
I turned back to the Taj despite the day’s fatigue,
In sixty horrific hours, I spoke to life and witnessed death.
To take me the angels never arrived…
I haven’t gone home ever since…

Taj Hotel, 26/11 Terror Attack
In sixty horrific hours, I spoke to life and witnessed death

Gunshots and grenades are now family entertainment,
Deaths and developments are discussed with frenzied excitement,
I shiver with fear when I sleep between my parents.
To take me the angels never arrived…
I haven’t gone home ever since…

26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack
I shiver with fear when I sleep between my parents

A pawn in international politics and a proof of your impotency,
Law structures, activists and my bosses guarantee my security,
I am Qasab – the face of the Mumbai terror attacks,
Guess what?
To take me the angels will always arrive
And trust me… I will be home soon…

26..11.2008 – 10 years since the Mumbai Terror Attack…most of us in Mumbai…have still not gone home…But…Kasab did…just as the poem said…

P.S.: When I recited this poem at Whistling Woods International, I received a standing ovation from the audience.
